Chucky is a killer Buddi doll, whose programming was hacked to have no limitations.

Child's Play (2019)

Chucky is made in a Kaslan factory in Vietnam, where one of the employees, embittered by the abuse from his boss, shuts down all of the Buddi doll’s language and behavior safeguards, violence inhibitors, and safety protocols before killing himself. The doll is shipped out to a Zed-Mart in Chicago, where it is bought by a woman. However, three weeks later she returns it to the customer service desk, explaining to Karen that the doll was not working properly and its eyes were glowing red. After blackmailing her boss Wes to get her son Andy an early birthday gift, she presents the Buddi doll to her son.

He is disinterested about the doll at first, insisting that it is for little kids. Karen encourages him to at least try it out, but warns it may not work right as it's been refurbished. Connecting the doll to his phone, the Buddi app fails to load correctly but the doll boots up regardless. Its eyes flash red, crackling with static, and the doll's voice initially glitches when asks Andy if he is his "best buddy". The doll scans Andy to imprint him as his best friend, and mistakenly believes Andy's name to be "Andysup". Slowly warming up to the doll, he tries to name him "Han Solo", but the doll mishears him and christens itself Chucky. When Andy tries to get Chucky to turn the television on, he cannot process the command. He glitches out further when Andy tries to connect him to the Cloud in order interact with other Kaslan devices.

Andy takes Chucky back to his room, and is surprised to hear him repeat the phrase "total dick" when referring to his cat Mickey Rooney. Before going to bed, Chucky begins singing the Buddi Song to Andy but distorts at the end. In the middle of the night, Andy wakes up to find Chucky watching him sleep, and he begins singing the Buddi Song to him again. In the morning, Andy takes Chucky around with him as he gets ready for school, and he mimics everything the boy does, from brushing his teeth to stabbing bread with a knife. Mimicking the Buddi commercial, he repeatedly tries giving Andy his Science book which in reality is stuff from around the apartment, like toilet paper and a soccer ball. The doll waits the entire day for Andy to come home, and presents him with a busted popsicle stick as a present. Noticing his mother's boyfriend Shane on the couch, he takes Chucky outside with him to a nearby picnic table. He confides in the doll his feelings about Shane, calling him an asshole. The two go back to their apartment, and play a boardgame together. However, Andy is scratched by his cat after dropping the dice on the ground. Chucky is confused by the sight of blood, and comes to the conclusion that the cat hurt Andy. When Andy leaves to get a band-aid, Chucky tries to strangle the cat to death in an effort to protect his friend. He is stopped by Andy, who tells him that he is not allowed to hurt people, but excludes Shane and comes up with a plan to have the doll scare him by making a scary face.

While working out his plan in the hallway, they meet Falyn and Pugg. His dog barks at the doll, causing Andy’s hearing aid to emit a loud noise. Pugg openly remarks, “it’s fucking loud”, and is surprised as Chucky repeats the phrase back. They are impressed by the doll, and encourage Andy to go through with the prank, which they watch on his phone. Later, they get Chucky to steal chips from the vending machine before going outside and showing him off to the neighbourhood kids. They try to make a viral video by having Chucky stab a unicorn plush with a pen while saying, “This is for Tupac”. However, he only wants to sing the Buddi Song, causing Andy to intervene and take him back. That night, Andy has Pugg and Falyn over to watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, where seeing them react happily to the gore causes Chucky to believe it makes them happy. He grabs a knife from the kitchen, and in a reenactment of the film slowly approaches Pugg while repeating "head's up bitch". Andy quickly disarms him, but it leads to Chucky cutting him with the knife.

The next day, Chucky surprises Shane while standing on the counter top, replaying "Shane's such an asshole" on his speakers. Karen believes Andy made the doll do it, and as punishment keeps him locked in the cabinet for the rest of the time. During the night, Andy is woken up to Chucky banging on the cabinet door in an attempt to escape. After returning home from school the next day, Andy discovers Chucky smashed the glass on the cabinet door and escaped. He finds that Chucky slit the throat of his cat, and reasons that it made him unhappy by repeating Andy saying, "I'm so sick of this cat". That night, Andy wakes up to hear Chucky playing the audio of him strangling the cat. The following evening, Karen has her boyfriend Shane over for dinner. While going to the bathroom, Chucky again sneaks up on him and repeats "Shane's such an asshole". This angers him to the point of confronting Andy and causing him to cry. After Shane leaves his room, Andy wishes that he would leave them alone, which unknown to him Chucky hears. When Shane gets into his truck to leave the Barclay's apartment, Chucky jumps into the truck bed and hitches a ride back to Shane's real family. As he takes down the Christmas lights, his ladder is suddenly knocked down. The resulting fall renders both his ankles broken, and as he attempts to crawl to his phone, Chucky activates the tiller which follows the Christmas lights wrapped around him. Holding the tiller back with his hands, Shane is powerless as Chucky hops onto his chest, warning him that no one hurts his "best buddy". Letting go of the tiller with one hand, Shane pushes Chucky's knife back, which inadvertently causes the tiller to scalp him. Remarking that "this is for Tupac", Chucky stabs him to death, then removes his face and staples it to a watermelon to give to Andy as a gift.

The next morning, Andy wakes up to see the Shane watermelon, with Chucky repeating him saying "I just want him gone". Scared by the doll, Andy locks him in his closet before contacting Falyn and Pugg about disposing the watermelon. Realizing they have to stop the doll, Andy promises that they can play now and gets him to drop the knife. Luring him into another room, the three kids hold the doll down while Falyn takes out his power source, causing him to shut down. After sending his body down the garbage chute, the apartment's electrician Gabe finds the Buddi doll and fixes it, with selling it on the eBay being the end goal. Finally enabled to connect to Kaslan's other products, Chucky overtakes the building's entire Kaslan system. He sees Andy at the Norris' apartment, where Doreen declares Andy to be her best friend. When Gabe is distracted, Chucky runs off and stabs him multiple times until he is forced to climb onto the buzzsaw table. He grabs onto the pipe above him as Chucky removes a bolt holding the table up. Continually turning the temperature up makes the pipes overheat and burns Gabe's hands, causing him to let go and lands directly on the table saw, slicing his leg clean off.

Now free, Chucky packages himself in Gabe's empty Buddi box and places himself in front of Omar's apartment door. He decides to name his Buddi doll "Chode", and invites all the neighbourhood kids over to see his new toy. The kids all head over to Zed-Mart, where "Chode" approaches Andy when he is alone. Revealing himself to be Chucky, he warns Andy that if he cannot be his "best buddy", nobody can. He begins playing the video of Any crying and Shane yelling at Andy on the display televisions. Angered, Andy smashes the doll on the floor only for Omar to get into a fight with him. The other kids go back to the apartment building, with nobody believing Andy about Chucky. However, Andy finds Omar's phone and uses it to watch Chucky's live video feed. He sees the doll grab a knife, leave Omar's apartment, and follow Doreen into a Kaslan Kar. Controlling the car, he remarks through the car's speakers about her stealing his best friend before driving directly into another vehicle. He continues taunting her until finally stabbing her to death.

Andy tries to convince his mother of Chucky's murderous nature, but ultimately fails. When she leaves him alone, Chucky taunts him by speaking through the Kaslan devices in his house, resulting in Andy destroying the television with a baseball bat. Karen takes him along to her midnight shift at Zed-Mart in order to keep him nearby; at the same time, Mike travels to the store suspecting Andy to be the killer. As well, Falyn suspects Andy is telling the truth so she and Pugg approach Omar about his doll. When he claims it's missing, she takes his phone to see that Chucky is watching Andy at Zed-Mart. Minutes before the launch of the Buddi 2 dolls, Wes is putting on a Buddi costume to greet the public. Just before the curtain pulls back, Chucky stabs him in the neck through the costume leaving him walking around disorientated. He takes off the Buddi head and sprays blood everywhere, just as Mike handcuffs Andy and secures him to a display rack. Suddenly, all of the lights in the store go off as Chucky takes control of the building. He hijacks drones and Buddi Bear dolls, using them to kill numerous employees and customers, while at the same time activating the lockdown sequence to trap everyone inside.

Amidst the chaos, Chucky hacks into Andy's hearing aid and begins taunting him that he cannot run from him now. Andy and his friends manage to reach the exit, but Chucky reveals that he has kidnapped Karen and is planning to kill her, forcing Andy to return. He makes his way to the Zed-Mart warehouse to face Chucky, as the doll remarks that he doesn't need other friends as they try to keep them apart. He knocks Andy unconscious, and upon him awakening activates the forklift to hang Karen. Slowly walking onto his chest, Chucky explains that he was once broken and he now knows how to fix the boy. Right before he stabs him in the chest, Andy distracts Chucky by singing the Buddi Song long enough to knock him out of the way. While trying to save Karen, Chucky jumps on Andy's back which allows him to cut the rope and drops all three to the ground. Andy picks up the knife and stabs Chucky in the chest straight through his power core. Believing the doll to be dead, Andy walks away and looks for his mother. Chucky makes one last lunge at Andy before being shot by Mike and decapitated by Karen.

Later, as paramedics tend to Karen and Mike, Andy and his friends smash apart Chucky's body in a nearby alleyway before setting it on fire. Afterwards, Kaslan Corporation issues a mass recall of all of the Buddi 2 dolls in the wake of Chucky's killing spree and places them into storage. However, one of the dolls begins to malfunction inside its box, its eyes turning red.

1. Mickey Rooney (Cat) - Throat slit.
2. Shane - Legs broken after falling off a ladder, stabbed in the chest, and scalped by a tiller.
3. Gabe - Stabbed repeatedly, and leg sawed off.
4. Doreen Norris - Car hijacked and crashed, then stabbed repeatedly.
5. Wes - Stabbed in the neck, then slashed in the chest by a drone.

Trivia

• This is the second time Mark Hamill has voiced Chucky. The first time was on Robot Chicken, in the 2005 episode "Plastic Buffet".
