"Why do I always fall for the crazy ones?"
―Dr. Foley to Nica.

Dr. Foley is a psychiatrist, working at the Harrogate mental facility. He diagnosed Nica Pierce with schizophrenia, and worked with her to accept that she was responsible for the murder of her family.

Cult of Chucky (2017)[]

Working with Nica for four years at the Lochmoor asylum, he had gotten her to acknowledge that Chucky is simply a delusion she created to live with herself for killing her family. He congratulates her for the tremendous progress in accepting the hard truths about herself during her treatment, and tells her she is being transferred to a medium security facility, Harrogate. Although Nica continues to blame herself for the murders, Foley insists that her schizophrenia does not make her responsible for her actions.

Dr. Foley continues treating Nica at Harrogate, and includes her in a group therapy session with other patients. Claire begins interrogating her on why Nica killed her family, but Foley insists that Nica isn't a danger to anyone anymore. When the subject of Chucky is brought up, Foley wishes to explore this further with the group and brings out a Good Guy doll. While Nica is unfazed, Madeleine immediately takes to the doll as her "baby". Later that day during lunch, Foley takes Nica to a visitor, her niece's legal guardian Tiffany Valentine. After informing Nica her niece is dead, she gives her the Good Guy doll she used in therapy. Incredibly distraught, Nica throws the doll away and wheels herself out of the room, leaving Foley with the doll. He then takes the doll and leaves it in the group therapy room.

The next day, Angela is found dead. While the group therapy session revolves around argueing if Nica is the murderer, Madeleine arrives late, sitting down on the couch with Chucky. She notices that there is another Chucky beside her, which came from Tiffany. Nica finally realizes that Tiffany was the girlfriend of serial killer Charles Lee Ray. She is convinced that the Good Guy doll is possessed by Chucky, so to put the issue to rest Dr. Foley holds a lighter over the doll's hand, melting the plastic until the fingers are disfigured. Nica suggests that Chucky switched places with Madeleine's doll and wants to melt its hand, which upsets Madeleine and she leaves the room. After the room is empty, Claire returns to throw the doll down the laundry chute. However, she is then bitten by the doll just as Foley catches up to her. She tries to convince him the doll did it, but she is instead restrained and taken to another room. After being strapped down and medicated, Foley is called out, leaving her alone with the Chucky doll.

After Claire is found dead, Nica has a private therapy session with Dr, Foley. She believes Chucky is behind the murders, and that both Good Guy dolls in the asylum are alive somehow. He attempts to get her to see that she is projecting onto the doll, and decides to hypnotize her in order to get her to accept the truth. While taking a shot of whiskey, he begins the hypnosis session and begins asking her about her guilt, if there were recordings of her killing Angela and Claire. Chuckling, Nica tells him that Chucky is behind him just as Foley goes in to kiss her. Before he can continue, Chucky knocks him unconscious by breaking the whiskey bottle over his head. The next day, Foley is late to the group therapy session, so Nica takes advantage of the lull and tries to get Madeleine's doll from her. Upset, she walks away to her room to put her doll to sleep. When Nica tries to follow her, Foley stops her in the hallway and tells her she assaulted him during their hypnosis session. He tells her he is willing to keep his mouth shut about this incident if she is, before going into Madeleine's room to find she attempted to smother her doll to death. He gets her to say sorry to her doll, whom she is using as a substitute for her real baby she smothered to death, before he takes the doll away. Claiming the doll to be a powerful symbol of guilt, confusion and the past, he remarks it's best that they bury the past once and for all. Foley has the doll buried outside the facility in a small grave.

That night, another Good Guy doll is delivered to Dr. Foley, which he leaves in his office so he can do his nightly rounds. Shortly after, Madeleine is found dead, and he has her doll disposed of before heading back to his office. He arrives to find Nica in a straitjacket, who claims that Chucky did this to her. He tells her that she is going to have to go back to Lochmoor, which is a shame as she could have given her so much more "personal attention" at Harrogate. Kneeling down, he gives her a pair of red high heels and begins kissing her toes before putting on the shoes. She insists that he is going to die, to which he retorts that nobody will believe her. When he goes in to kiss her again, she spits in his face causing him to lurch back just in time to be hit by another whiskey bottle. He awakens some time later to see Nica, now possessed by Chucky, standing over him. Remarking that "this is for Nica", she stomps his skull in with her red wedge heels.

Trivia[]

  • Dr. Foley is Chucky's 44th victim since Child's Play.
  • Michael Therriault also played Nathan Cross in the Chucky TV series.
  • Sometime after Curse of Chucky in 2013, Andy attempted to prove Nica's innocence by bringing his severed Chucky head to Foley. However, Foley simply believes it's a trick and has him sent away.
  • He claimed that he was planning to write a book about his involvement in treating Nica.
  • He is the second supporting character in the films who tried to rape a female protagonist, who in this case is Nica, while the first was the Peddler who sold Chucky to Karen in the first film when he attempts to rape Karen in their second encounter.
  • Chucky is both disgusted and impressed by Dr. Foley. After knocking him out the first time, he is surprised by Foley's sexual assaults on his patients via hypnosis and says "And they call me sick?" and calls Foley "diabolical" for his actions and admits to being "a little envious" of it. The second time Chucky knocks him out, he comically claims he does not know whether to kill Foley or just take notes of his terrible deeds.
