Goin' To The Chapel is the seventh episode in the second season of Chucky.

Synopsis[]

Ade due Damballa! The survivors band together with Father Bryce to perform an exorcism.

Plot[]

Father Bryce, Andy Barclay, and Sister Catherine all stand behind Dr. Mixter, arms raised. Dr. Mixter holds the trio at gunpoint and forces Jake to hand over Good Chucky. At that moment, Kyle steps into the room, gun drawn, and points it at Dr. Mixter. They broker a deal to transfer Chucky's soul out of Nica Pierce and into Good Chucky, provided Dr. Mixter gets to leave with the doll. Meanwhile, in a 50's diner off the road, Tiffany tries to get food at the diner, but becomes antsy when the news airs coverage of their manhunt for Jennifer Tilly. Tiffany is recognized, and tries to flee, but becomes increasingly frustrated when her car won't start.

At the school the next morning, Nadine's body is collected by the coroner. Upstairs, Lexy is completely broken by the experience and insists that none of them would have ever been friends if not for Chucky, and resigns herself to bed, saying "[she's] done". Jake and Devon agree to give her space, and leave. As soon as they're gone, she breaks down and relapses, taking almost all the pills in the bottle. Downstairs in the library, Nica circles a tied-up Chucky. Good Chucky pleads with Jake, but Jake is silent. Sister Catherine, Father Bryce, Glenda, Dr. Mixter, Andy, and Kyle all stand around as well. The Father locks the guns in a drawer and throws the keys down a grate and prepare to exorcise Chucky from Nica. Father Bryce and Sister Catherine leave to get approval from the Vatican. Kyle gets mad at Andy for ditching her at the gas station in season 1, but then quickly forgives him and gives him a hug. Nica, Kyle, and Andy commiserate over their experiences with Chucky. Jake tries to apologize to Devon and ask about what Lexy said regarding their lack of common interests, but Devon is in no mood to discuss it at the moment, since there are more pressing issues. Chucky feigns an apology to Jake, and headbutts him when he gets close. Though Jake tries to attack Chucky, he is stopped by Glenda and Andy, who moves Chucky from public view as a safety precaution until the exorcism can begin. With Chucky more secure, Glenda interrogates the doll about his terrible parenting, and how they wish they were an orphan.

Upstairs, Lexy has nightmares about Nadine and her death, fully dissociating. Overwhelmed with emotion, she tears down Nadine's artwork, the reminder of her presence too painful to look at. Just then, Nadine enters the room, blue and effulgent, with a cape flowing behind looking like angel's wings on her back. She asks Lexy not to rip up her artwork. Her form turns solid and she comforts Lexy, even as Lexy contemplates suicide. Nadine assuages Lexy and brings her back from the edge, giving her the tools to continue forward, and disappears. Later, Sister Ruth discovers Lexy asleep, the pills on her nightstand.

Back in the library, one by one, the exorcism party says their confessions to cleanse their souls for the ritual, Father Bryce having been excommunicated by the Pope himself for asking if he can conduct the exorcism in the first place. He decides to go rogue, citing his duty to his faith and to the children in his care, pulling out "Exorcism for Dummies". Andy confesses to Father Bryce that he's terrified he won't know who he'll be without Chucky. Glenda asks Father Bryce to pray over their sibling, and confesses to the murder of Sal DeMarco. Jake confesses to the murders of Gary, Nadine, Devon's mom, and his father. Nica confesses her hatred of Chucky, Tiffany, and herself for failing to stop them. Dr. Mixter does not offer a confession, but instead tells Father Bryce that she's going to unleash Chucky all over the world after the exorcism, and he can't do anything due to priest-confessor confidentiality, and is kicked out, her soul still unclean. Father Bryce himself offers his confession to Sister Catherine. He admits to always feeling conflicted about his faith and who he is as a person, but can't bring himself to say what precisely that is, only that he has always been "different." The confession is truly sincere and both of them cry. The exorcism begins. Father Bryce throws holy water on Chucky, The water burns, and Chucky laughs.

At the 50's diner, a mechanic checks out Tiffany's car. As she rejoices at the prospect of returning to a doll body, Glen notices Jennifer Tilly struggling against her ropes, and is almost free. Jennifer escapes, and as she cries, running across the parking lot, she is smashed to pieces by a semi-truck. Tiffany wails, the Wedding Belle doll she planned on using as a body now destroyed.

At the church, the exorcism continues. Chucky begins to antagonize Devon, but Jake is able to calm him down before he stops the exorcism to enact personal vengeance. Chucky then antagonizes the room, but, going nowhere, turns and starts on Jake. He pesters Jake about his failing relationship with Devon and his roles in Gary and Nadine's deaths. Chucky struggles against his bonds, the exorcism getting more and more intense, then goes limp. With the Chucky motionless, Father Bryce leans in close and begins the concluding lines of the exorcism. Suddenly, Chucky inches forward and tears a chunk out of Father Bryce's lip, the blood staining his white collar. Nica catches sight of it, and Chucky Prime emerges, but is immediately punched by Kyle. Nica demands to be blindfolded so she can't be a further liability. Kyle obliges, and Father Bryce resumes the exorcism. Chucky continues to be antagonistic as holy water continues to burn his flesh. He rises into the air. He hangs listlessly in the air for a brief moment, then drops dead. Chucky's spirit whirls around the room, looking for a new host, and settles on Father Bryce. Father Bryce tries to fight the spirit off, and drive it from his body, saying "Chucky, you go to Hell". Chucky responds, "You first", and Father Bryce explodes into several pieces, shooting blood all over Jake, Devon, Andy, Kyle, Nica, Glenda, and Sister Catherine, leaving all of them in a state of shock and abject horror. Once they calm down, they cover Father Bryce's intact head and start to clean up. Dr. Mixter revels in the carnage and urges everyone to hurry up so she and Chucky can get a move-on. Nica rolls forward and begins to chant, "Ade due Damballa..." Thunder rolls and lightning strikes outside as the chanting gets more and more intense. Nica seizes, and collapses against the marble pedestal where Chucky lies. The doll awakens. The transfer was a success. Immediately, Andy and Jake move to snatch the doll. Jake gets there first and bolts toward the holy water basin. Dr. Mixter shrieks after him. Jake starts to drown Chucky in the water, which sputters and sizzles against the wickedness of Chucky's soul, but before he is successful, Sister Ruth enters, holding Lexy at gunpoint. Doctor Mixter is pleased at the sight, and says, "Took you long enough".

Sister Ruth promises to spare Lexy's life so long as Dr. Mixter and the doll are permitted to leave. Jake hands the doll over, and Sister Ruth immediately forces Lexy to her knees and points the gun at the back of Lexy's head execution-style. She begins to chant about the Lord and her duty, and is about to kill Lexy, but Glenda throws a knife into her eye. She takes out the knife, looks at her eye, and falls dead. Lexy runs into Jake and Devon's arms while Andy, Kyle, Nica, and the rest all go after Dr. Mixter, Andy picking up Sister Ruth's gun on the way. Andy shoots Chucky from afar, knocking off his jaw. Dr. Mixter drops the doll and tears out of the school. Chucky gets up and tries to run away. Andy shoots multiple times, hitting his chest, pelvis, and stomach. Everyone stands over Chucky. He gives a final death-rattle, his eyes close, and he perishes.

They burn the body as the trio look on. Andy and Kyle are happy that Jake, Devon, and Lexy can now have what Chucky stole from them. Kyle then wonders what her and Andy are going to do with the rest of their lives, Andy then responds to Kyle saying, "I don't know. I haven't thought about my future since the first grade", Kyle then responds, "well, lucky for you, you the rest of your life to figure it out". They leave the school together, where it then cuts to a flashback of Child's Play 2 where a much younger Andy and Kyle are leaving the toy factory, having defeated Chucky again.

Outside, Nica smokes a cigarette and talks with Glenda. Nica admits to not knowing which side Glenda was on until the very end. Glenda responds simply, "I'm on my own side. Glen's side too". Nica thanks Glenda for giving her her life back. The two discuss what they are going to do respectively. Glenda admits to feeling like an orphan. Right on cue, Tiffany Valentine pulls up to the school. The siblings hug each other as Nica and Tiffany stare each other down. Tiffany becomes alarmed once Glenda admits that they, along with everyone else, killed Charles Lee Ray. Nica responds, "Now [mom's dead] too". And raises her gun. Tiffany pleads for her life, but just as Nica shoots, Glen jumps in the way, and is shot in the stomach. Glenda immediately springs into action and lifts Glen up with Tiffany to take them to a hospital and Nica sobs, having been robbed both of vengeance and shot an innocent kid.

As they drive away, ahead of them, Dr. Mixter drives, cackling in an all-too familiar voice.
