==Biography==

Like her husband and the entire Simpson family, her external foster family background made her an embodiment of a stereotypical ideal model family (including her being a mother and housewife who cooks and clean, having an office-worker for a husband as well as having huge house fit for a general family (which consists of two-stories and a basement) and a family station wagon).

Joanne lived on Prescott Lane with her husband Phil, where they spent the remainder of their days supplying for the brief foster children they helmed after the harrowing truth that Joanne cannot give birth to any biological children. Though she and her husband tried for many years to adopt, the agencies always turned the couple down. Despite how she had a good record with being a foster parent.

*The role of foster mother Joanne Simpson reflects on her portrayer Agutter's real life charitable services that involves helping children, which includes the Diabetic Association and NCH Action for Children, a charity which provides home and other help for homeless children, with which Agutter has been involved for five years. The role also reflected on Agutter's real life aspects that were recent at the time she filmed her role as Joanne including Agutter's then-latest marriage and her expectance of becoming a mother for the first time to her then-unborn child Jonathan who was later born on the same year ''Child's Play 2'' was theatrically released, which is considered ironic as Agutter's character in the film was unable to conceive children of her own while Agutter herself was able to so.

Agutter was a teenage girl who was having a picnic in the Australian backcountry when without warning a man opened fire on them before taking his own life. She then had to traverse the unforgiving Australian outback with minimal means of survival, while choosing not to reveal what happened to the little boy.

Joanne Simpson is a foster mother, whose foster family background made her an embodiment of the stereotypical ideal model family.

Child's Play 2 (1990)

Joanne instantly felt compassion for Andy Barclay, unlike her husband Phil, who is wary of his distant and strange behavior. Regardless of Phil's worries, they decide to take him in. As Andy gets settled in, he sees a Good Guy doll named Tommy, which had been previously owned by another foster child.

When Andy reacts with momentary horror, Phil wonders what is going on, but Joanne has some understanding of Andy's past fears and offers to get rid of the toy so as not to cause trouble. At one point, she discovers that her family's priceless ornament, passed down for generations, had been broken by Chucky, who used it to destroy Tommy so he could assume the identity to remain in the Simpson residence and close to Andy.

Joanne fights with Phil's constantly about Andy's past, and alleged criminal insanity. However, when Phil is murdered, it leaves her grief-stricken and disillusioned about Andy. She angrily holds him accountable, and instead of having him charged with murder, she packs his things and sends him back to the orphanage. Kyle, knowing that Andy likely did not kill Phil, tries to reason with her, but Joanne vindictively ignores her.
